Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland might not be the first place you think about having your holiday. Being from the Netherlands, the Troubles are front of mind. The Good Friday agreement is however over 20 years old. Belfast is a vibrant city and the nature is absolutely stunning. Below an impression of sites we visited in NI

Our Northern Ireland impressions

Murals in Belfast

Positive welcome and peace messages in the Loyalist area

    Campsites we used

New England Bay, Port Logan, Scotland

Beautiful campsite in Dumfries and Galloway on the way to Cairnryan from where the Stena line sails to Belfast. It's close to the most Southern point of Scotland on the beach. It's a Caravan and Motorhome club site.

Dundonald Touring Caravan park, Dundonald, Antrim, NI

Motorhome site close to the Belfast city centre. Basic but ok. Really well positioned to use the Comber Greenway a cycle path into the city centre, which we used instead of driving our motorhome into the city centre. It's about 4-5 miles from the campsite to the city.

Carnfunnock Caravan Park & Campsite, Larne, Antrim, NI

Great campsite located inside the Carnfunnock country park.

Glenmore Caravan and Camping park, Ballycastle, Antrim, NI

Campsite about 3 miles outside Ballycastle. We did cycle into Ballycastle but it's definitely a steep climb back to the campsite. Ballycastle is well positioned to visit the Giants Causeway. Decent facilities. Level places for the motorhome.

    Maddybenny farm campsite

Campsite on a working farm and livery a few miles from Portrush and Portstewart. Great location, nice campsite, good facilities.

    Rushin House Caravan park

Beautiful caravan park with view on lake and mountains. The other side of the lake is the Republic of Ireland  - we would officially have to go into Covid quarantine if we would cross the lake :)

    Noticeable Food establishments

    Maggie May, Belfast

Close to the Botanical gardens, 2 Malone road, great milkshakes - huge choice

    O'Conners Bar, Ballycastle

Ann street, in the centre of Ballycastle, great seafood menu. Huge crab claws

    Ocho Tapas Bistro, Portstewart

    Nice tapas!

    Morelli's Portstewart / Portrush

Fantastic ice cream and great coffee

    Surf Shack, Castlerock

Great little coffee house, surfing inspired (in fact you can hire surfboards)

    Causeway Coastal Route

Our Route for the first week and a bit followed the Causeway Coastal Route
